AN EDUCATION IN BASED

SILENCE & NOISE TOP + H&M + KIMCHI BLUE BELT + CONVERSE SNEAKERS

Saturday night I, Kim Julien, willingly went to a Lil B concert. Those who aren't familialr, Lil B is a 23 year old rapper that promotes a positive outlook and what I can only describe as an absurdest. Some hits include Wonton Soup & Hipster Girls, so yo have a feel for what we're dealing with here. Upon arrival I overheard a girl tell her friends that it was a real boner party in there (my words, not her's). She wasn't lying. Music Hall of Williamsburg was wall to wall dudes with a smattering of ladies. I quickly got an education on the cult like crowd that yelled "Lil B" when he commanded. His fans, at least the ones that will protect him at all cost, are called his task force and those wearing a pink bandana as B did that night are honorary members of a little thing called bitch mob. Lil B went a little long for my liking (two hours); a tight 45 minutes would have sufficed. All in all, I was entertained; he's not the best stage act but B prematurely calling for security every two seconds as if he could foresee an imaginary incident that never occurred was well worth the ticket price.

Poca

HAND ME DOWN NIKES + H&M DRESS + DIY JACKET FROM MY CHILDHOOD + GIFTED HAT

I dug up this piece of nostalgia in the house I grew up in...or was it that I always had it with me since I moved out at 18? Anyway, I have this awesome Pocahontas jacket from the Disney Store that used to be my jam and at 24 apparently is still my jam. So with the help of my homie Masa (I'll post about him soon) I studded the shit out of it and here you have it: perfection.

HOT AS ALL HELL

LEOTARD VIA CENTURY 21 + BDG SHORTS + CONVERSE SNEAKERS + NECKLACE FROM MY FORMER JOB

So last week here in New York was a hellish scorcher and with each passing day and the hotter it got, I left the house in less and less clothing. It was as if the roads split and the fiery pits of hell spewed out for our discomfort and stickiness. Ugh. It was not good.

IF YOU WERE MY MAN

My physical attraction works like this:

1. Oh, who is that? Damn, he's fiiine!
2. *looks down* LOVING his footwear
3. *looks up* cute outfit

I'm a shoe person, not to be confused with a clothes person (I love clothes but the feeling isn't the same) or an accessories queen. For me shoes are part of the holy trinity of getting ready: hair: check!
outfit: check! shoes: check! Let's hit the goddamn road! What can I say, a mean shoe game makes me swoon. Here's an abbreviated collection that would make me bat my eyelashes and laugh at all your jokes:

"MY LOOK WAS MUUUUCH GURL"

Seriously, like in all seriousness Xander's The Look is some life motto shit, some "I'm feeling myself" shit, some "aren't I sickening bitch?" shit. I really do get my life from this song which is comprised of Xander's wisdom put to a track by the Gay Pimp himself, Jonny McGovern.

All I have to say is "My look was muuuuch gurl"

WHERE DA BEACH AT?

F21 COVER UP + ALDO HEELS + LIZ CLAIBORNE JACKET

I'm pretty sure I wore a beach cover up the other day and guess what, I don't give a damn. On the the real, everything in our closets is a fashion possibility despite the time of year. Ask any of my friends, I wear what I want when I want. I'm pretty passionate about expressing yourself how you see fit. If your expression manifests itself in a neon mesh top circa 2002, I'm going to rock with you because that's how you want to express yourself. I won't cosign, no sir, but I will defend the shit out of your right to wear that ugly ass top.

GIVE EM' THE BOOT

I know it's hot as balls outside and the last thing you're thinking about is wearing boots but bare with me. While contemplating restoring my OkCupid profile (I did), I found myself on the Acne website and of course I went straight to the shoes because goddamnit shoes are super important. Any who, their boots are quite dope. A bit pricey, well ok, super fucking pricey especially for a young gal who can only afford to pay her rent and cop some drinks on the weekends; I did some virtual window shopping. Here are my out of reach picks from Acne's boot selection:

$610

$720

$550

$560

I GOT LOVE FOR YOU SOLANGE

                                                                                      source: necole bitchie

There aren't many things I wouldn't do to get a solid five minutes of shopping time in Solange's closet. Seriously, I'd lay in a glass coffin of snakes, Fear Factor style, just to see what sartorial treasures this woman posses. I never could have imagined Bey's little sister, who was rocking wavy braids and a beanie on the cover of her debut album Solo Star as a teen, would evolve into this fashion goddess. Adore doesn't quite speak to how I feel about Solange's style; it's everything. It's edgy, experimental, youthful, colorful and very much personal. As usual, Solange didn't disappoint this weekend at the Sixth Annual Roots Picnic. The way she mixes prints is perfection. Take note.

And for your listening pleasure I bring to you Solange and Oliver Sims performing a cover of one of my favorite songs in the universe: Nicole Wray's Make it Hot
