Kimmie Mouse

Sorry I've been leaving you high and dry regarding outfit posts; ever since school has ended I haven't been getting out much.

I went to my parent's house last week and found this Mickey Mouse hat my brother Yves' old girlfriend got me a million years ago. I had too much fun with this hat, I have a feeling that it will make more appearances in future posts. I just can't help my self, sorry :P

This is what I ended up leaving the house in.

Awards & DSLR Cameras

****I NEED YOUR HELP! I'm starting to save up for one of those fancy DSLR cameras but I have no idea which to get. Any suggestions would be sweet! I really wouldn't know where to start on my search.

Dudes and dudettes, this is my first blogger award and that's pretty cool. Yes, I'm a dork but that's besides the point. I really love this little blog I have here so the award is, dare I say, special to me :) Thanks Shannon from Dirty Hair Halo for bestowing upon me The Most Glamorous Person Ever Award! haha no no, that wasn't it, it's the Glamorous Blog Award. If you're not familiar with Shannon's blog, check it out because it's really good. She mixes prints and textures and is a pretty amazing dresser. Snazzy, that's the word.

I will in turn present this award (in no particular order) to:

Kelly @ Lions, Tigers & Fashion Oh My! - with her long flowy hair and penchant for diy projects, she is simply fab.

Elaine @ Clothed Much - she's super sweet and super stylish; what more can you ask for?

Dylana @ Nana in Wonderland - I adore her style; she is so effortless.

I hope all is well with everyone. Smooches (yeah I said smooches, get over it)

your bestie for life,
kim

F21 Goes Hard

go hard - doing something to it's fullest; doing something well (definition courtesy of Urbandictionary.com)

I love to play high/how with my wardrobe and Forever 21 clothes and shoes are great examples of awesome low items that look of quality (most of the time). Like any other night I was perusing their site for new shoes and I found these beauties. You can't tell me F21 doesn't go hard. Mmmmm, delish.

Hot Pants Part II

The Look Goes As Follows:

The monster, I mean mane.

I'm currently writing a paper on the beauty ideals in Western culture and the standard which is white, slender, upper class and young. It's so interesting to think how a standard like this doesn't apply to most people though we have really held tight to it. I'm also focusing on black women and their relationship with their hair. To straighten or not to straighten? This is a decision that unfortunately has many implications in the black community and how people of other races see us. As a Gender and Sexuality Studies Minor I'm completely fascinated by this topic because race, gender class etc are all connected; plus I decided not to chemically straighten my hair anymore almost 2 years ago and I've never loved my hair more.

So I just wanted to say a big thanks to all those who have commented on my hair and had nice things to say; it was very sweet of you. Though the decision for me to go natural wasn't more than a desire for me to embrace the hair that actually grows out of my head, for many it isn't a risk they are willing to take (if they are indeed considering it) because they don't want to be judged. I think whether you decide to rock your natural hair or relax it, at the end of the day it's just hair and hair is simply an accessory that shouldn't imply anything.

Here's a great article from the NY Times about it if you're interested: Black Hair, Still Tangled in Politics

Brit Brit is Feeding My Soul

Britney Spears' album Circus has been keeping me energized through the long nights of paper writing. Just imagine me chair dancing (which is dancing in one's seat of course) all delirious because it's like 2:30am with a smile on my face; she's better than coffee. Mannequin is my favorite song off the album with Blur coming in at a very close second. She's my guiltiest of pleasures, love her ;)

I didn't realize these oatmeal-ish cords looked like gray jeans until I asked my friend (and read the 1st comment), so hopefully the little collage I provided will give you a better grasp as to what they actually look like.

The Look Goes As Follows:
Lark & Wolff button down
BDG cords
F21 boots
0815LovesPeace coat
UO scarf

Yes, I'm Tall

I'm 5'8 and when I was younger I was kind of insecure about my height. I could care less about how tall I am but when people point out your height it's a little odd, whether people think you're too short or too tall. So I rocked my jc wedges to school today and two people in one of my classes basically said wow you're tall, though the words weren't particularly hurtful their tones told me it wasn't meant in the most positive way. Whatever! Tall girls represent!

So ladies and gents, I totally overdress for school and I like it! It was totally evident today. As always, I was dead set on wearing something despite the weather (it was freezing today) so I wore it: a H&M shirt dress. I walk into class and I just see Uggs and sweatshirts and then there's me. I don't mind standing out ;)

The Look Goes As Follows:
F21 faux fur vest
H&M Star Wars shirt dress
Duane Reade sheer tights
H&M socks
JC Alexa wedges

Cutie Pie

If this doesn't make you smile, nothing will. I saw this on Dlisted today and just had to post it. I love when kids are just amazing and adorable. He clearly doesn't know the lyrics which makes this video all the more awesome and he's a whiz at the ukulele. Now I have to go back to writing papers, yikes! I think we can safely file this under Cutest Thing Ever.

Everything That Glitters Isn't Gold

I really enjoy blogging and though I get super excited when I get a new comment or a new follower that isn't the main reason I blog. It's interesting to see the evolution of my stye and attempts at new things (though they may fail). Do you ever wonder how some bloggers do so well (i.e. have many followers and comments) whereas others, not so much? I guess it is representative of life, not everyone wins or rather there are degrees of success. This is just something that popped into my head while looking/reading some blogs this morning that get inundated with comments and others that are just as good but don't really get seen.

More Shirt Than Dress

Remember the shirt I wore here, well I decided to wear it as dress. My oldest brother (I have three older brothers) is in NY for the holidays from Illinois and he looked me over and asked my mother "Are you going to let her wear that?" All I could do was laugh and say "She doesn't let me do anything because I don't live with her" plus my mother thinks my clothes are adorable. She was all for this outfit when I put it on.

p.s. Don't mind my hair, it was very windy yesterday.

"Happy Gobble Gobble Gurl!"

I love this quote; I can't remember the context it was said in by fierce drag queen Koko Aviance but I heard it on the podcast Gay Pimpin' with Jonny McGovern. This is such a funny podcast, check it out on itunes (I promise I wasn't paid to say that lol).

Anyway, I meant to post on Thanksgiving but the day escaped me. Here is what I wore to Thanksgiving dinner (yup, it's dinner in my house)! I hope everyone had a great Turkey Day :-D

p.s. these photos were so much fun to take because I had my dear friend Marie operate the camera and we always have fun together. Here are the bloopers and all. Love you Marie

So I Wore A Crop Top

I bought this crop top and thought "how the hell am I going to wear this thing?" So I just threw it over a dress I was hell bent on wearing today. I think it worked out in the end :)
