GIFTED LEE SHORTS + H&M TOP + F21 SHOES + FRED FLARE SUNGLASSES
Second interview outfit. What! What! Whether or not I get the job at Buffalo Exchange is irrelevant (I'm lying; I really want the job) I'm just thankful for a good reason to wear heels. Like for real, for real.
JEFFREY CAMPBELL SHOES + FRED FLARE SUNGLASSES + DRESS VIA CENTURY 21 (I THINK)
Today I interviewed at Buffalo Exchange to be a buyer and this is what I wore. Wish me luck because I'm in that uncomfortable position in life where I absolutely need a job; it's the fucking worst but a necessary evil. Aside from that, I just love that store. It would be dope to be a part of something I truly dig. One interview down, two to go. Pray for me kids.
Be sure to check out the links below, I think my instagram is quite entertaining : ]
Malcom Brickhouse, Jarad Dawkins and Alec Atkins aren't only the blackest names you've ever heard, they make up the heavy metal group Unlocking the Truth. Hailing from Brooklyn these tween metal heads are causing quite the buzz for themselves. Talented musicians come and go, talented twelve year olds are quite impressive but talented 6th grade musicians that play metal who happen to be black is blowing the minds of many. Yes, they're breaking down stereotypes; black people don't only like "black" things and it's totally refreshing to hear music and see faces we've somehow deemed incongruent. They're the faces of every black person that was accused of acting white, teased about how they spoke then asked to write letters home from sleep away camp because these bullies were almost teenagers but were completely illiterate (a true story from my race chronicles). I wonder how they got their name: Unlocking the Truth, whatever the story, it seems quite fitting. What's more truthful than not complying to social constraints and doing what you like? Think about it. Every move we make is influenced by the world. To be brave enough to act in a way that isn't expected of us deserves, at the very least, a write up on a fashion blog.
If you're in New York, Unlocking the Truth is playing tomorrow night in Williamsburg. Deets HERE
THRIFTED NINE WEST HEELS + KIMCHI BLUE SKIRT + BORROWED SHIRT
It's so painful that this shirt doesn't belong to me but at least these pictures are forever. Everything about it: the cut, color and phrase screams Bruce Springsteen. Viva the '80s!
SILENCE & NOISE TOP + H&M + KIMCHI BLUE BELT + CONVERSE SNEAKERS
Saturday night I, Kim Julien, willingly went to a Lil B concert. Those who aren't familialr, Lil B is a 23 year old rapper that promotes a positive outlook and what I can only describe as an absurdest. Some hits include Wonton Soup & Hipster Girls, so yo have a feel for what we're dealing with here. Upon arrival I overheard a girl tell her friends that it was a real boner party in there (my words, not her's). She wasn't lying. Music Hall of Williamsburg was wall to wall dudes with a smattering of ladies. I quickly got an education on the cult like crowd that yelled "Lil B" when he commanded. His fans, at least the ones that will protect him at all cost, are called his task force and those wearing a pink bandana as B did that night are honorary members of a little thing called bitch mob. Lil B went a little long for my liking (two hours); a tight 45 minutes would have sufficed. All in all, I was entertained; he's not the best stage act but B prematurely calling for security every two seconds as if he could foresee an imaginary incident that never occurred was well worth the ticket price.
Saturday night I put on my shortest shorts, babysat a chunky babe aka watched a little cutie sleep on one of those nifty monitors then went to a party. Once the weather gets warm all bets are off and I'm showing my best asset: them legs.
DR. MARTEN BOOTS + H&M HAREM SWEATS + GIFTED PONCHO
Yoooooo. So I'm slapping some backlog on the blog. This outfit makes me miss cold weather. Ahhh those horrible cold days sure produced some cute 'fits.
HAND ME DOWN NIKES + H&M DRESS + DIY JACKET FROM MY CHILDHOOD + GIFTED HAT
I dug up this piece of nostalgia in the house I grew up in...or was it that I always had it with me since I moved out at 18? Anyway, I have this awesome Pocahontas jacket from the Disney Store that used to be my jam and at 24 apparently is still my jam. So with the help of my homie Masa (I'll post about him soon) I studded the shit out of it and here you have it: perfection.
LEOTARD VIA CENTURY 21 + BDG SHORTS + CONVERSE SNEAKERS + NECKLACE FROM MY FORMER JOB
So last week here in New York was a hellish scorcher and with each passing day and the hotter it got, I left the house in less and less clothing. It was as if the roads split and the fiery pits of hell spewed out for our discomfort and stickiness. Ugh. It was not good.
